Vernon G. Miles, Jr.
Former Rangely resident Vernon G. Miles, Jr. of Decatur, Texas, died Aug. 18, 1999, at the Decatur Community Hospital. He was 82.
He was born Jan. 4, 1917, in Decatur. He served in the the U.S. Navy during World War II.
In 1950 in Santa Fe, N.M., he married Helen Joy. He was employed by Chevron Oil Company for 28 years as a wireline operator.
He is survived by his wife; daughters, Deborah A. Freitag of Nucla, Sandra J. Hefley of Boise, Idaho, Joan Klose of Decatur, Elaine Pearce of Meeker, Colo., and Shirley Eckre of North Carolina; brothers, Rene V. Miles of Craig, Colo., and E.K. Miles of Fort Worth, Texas; 20 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Mass of the Christian Burial was celebrated Aug. 21, 1999, at the Assumption Catholic Church in Decatur. Interment was at Highland Cemetery in Meeker.

Lawrence Arnold Brooks
Lawrence Arnold Brooks of Sunbeam, Colo., died Aug. 16, 1999. He was 52.
On Oct. 13, 1946, in St. Louis, Mo., he was born the son of Andrew Jackson and Helene (Eberhart) Brooks. He spent his childhood in Golden, Colo.
He has been a resident of Craig, Colo., since 1998. He was a highway maintainance worker for the Colorado Department of Highways.
He is survived by sons, Lawrence (Lisa) Brooks of Westminster, Colo., Richard (Deanna) Brooks of Thornton, Colo., and Adam (Ella) Brooks of Thornton; daughter, Angela (Doug) Kline of Hayden, Colo.; brother, Ray Brooks of Rifle, Colo.; sister, Marsha Camron of Wauneta, Neb.; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services were held Aug. 20, 1999, at the Hayden Cemetery.
Pallbearers were: Lawrence Brooks, Adam Brooks, Rick Brooks, Harold Clark, Earl Hockett and Doug Kline.
