Obituary: Mary Grace Doolin Buttonham

April 12, 1933 — Dec. 12, 2017

Mary Grace died at The Memorial Hospital in Craig, Colorado, on Dec. 12, 2017. She was 84.

Mary Grace was born April 12, 1933 in Grey Horse, Oklahoma, to Lee and Sylvia (Barnard) Hinkle. Mary spent most of her childhood in Grey Horse. She was the sixth of 12 children. Her family moved out west in search of the promised land and ran out of resources in Hayden.

Mary attended high school in Hayden, where she enjoyed playing basketball before girls were allowed to play basketball. She soon met Donald Doolin and was married Feb. 6, 1954, in Hutchison, Kansas. Mary moved back to Hayden while Don finished his time in the Navy. They raised four children, Debra, John, JimRay and Ed.

Mary worked at the Hayden Mercantile for many years. She loved to camp, go for rides in the country, and loved playing card and dice games.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband Donald; daughter, Debra Eads; and son, Ed.

Mary had more than 2,000 hours countering at the Memorial Hospital as a Pink Lady. She later married Mike Buttonham and spent the last five years enjoying the many things they had in common — years spent with laughs and love.

Mary is survived by her husband, Mike; three of her brothers, Edwin, Eldon and Weldon and their families; 10 grandchildren, Erin (Kiel) Crist, Brad (Amy) Brandon, Casey (Ellisa) Doolin, Jesse (Kaci) Doolin, Colton Doolin, Travis Doolin, Nick Doolin, Brandi Doolin and Dakota Doolin; 17 great-grandchildren; and many honorary grandchildren, nieces, nephews and one ex-daughter-in-law who loved her.

Funeral services were held at The Journey at First Baptist Church on Dec. 16, 2017, with Pastor Doug Zirkle officiating. Brad Brandon, Nick Doolin, Jesse Doolin, Travis Doolin, Colton Doolin and Casey Doolin acted as pallbearers to get Mary to her final resting place in the Hayden Cemetery.
