Dan Matthews was born to Joseph and Luella (Laughlin) Matthews on Oct. 15, 1952, in Benson, Minnesota. He graduated from Murdock High School in Murdock, Minnesota, with the class of 1971. He furthered his education at a drafting school in Alexandria, Minnesota. He moved to the mountains of Colorado in the 1970s. He was employed as an electrician at Twenty Mile Coal Company for more than 20 years and enjoyed his recent career at Tri-State. His favorite pastime was spending time on the golf course, oftentimes with his daughter.
He is survived by daughter, Jessica Matthews, of Denver; beloved Aunt Mary Kay Matthews; three siblings: Donna Gunderson of Bismarck, North Dakota, Diane (Rodney) Erickson of Alexandria, Minnesota and David Matthews of Banning, California. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 27 at the Lutrell Barn, 411 Emerson St., east of the Moffat County Fairgrounds in Craig, Colorado. A celebration of his life in Minnesota will be held in April; details will be announced. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to The First Tee Foundation in care of Grant Mortuary.
