Northwest Colorado Recreation Foundation: Back to the drawing board

We, the members of the Northwest Colorado Recreation Foundation, hear your requests to see the financial data for a proposed recreation center. We have spent the last year looking at other recreation centers models and are creating a model for a new recreation center in Craig. Unfortunately, when we received the cost estimate to remodel the former Kmart building it was beyond our budget and we know that our friends and neighbors would not support a tax increase to fund construction costs that were that high.

We are literally going back to the drawing board — meaning we are asking to have new build plans drawn up. Because the design of the building dictates the operating budget that will need to be amended as well.

We appreciate all the volunteer time people have put forth already and financial contributions people have given already. We appreciate the words of support and the community pulling together to have a new vision for Craig.

We look forward to sharing our budget with you all as it becomes finalized. Our next public meeting is at 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 17, at City Hall. Please attend this meeting to hear our progress.
