Northwest Colorado Board of Cooperative Educational Services receives million dollar grant
December 21, 2012
The Northwest Colorado Board of Cooperative Educational Services was awarded $1,053,710 as part of the Colorado Department of Education's Increasing Achievement and Growth Grant.
According to a news release from NW BOCES, the money will be used to support literacy initiatives in the seven school districts NW BOCES serves, including East Grand, Hayden, Moffat County, North Park, South Routt, Steamboat Springs and West Grand school districts.
NW BOCES was one of only four recipients of the grant, according to the release.
After requesting proposals from throughout the state to identify methods for increasing literacy achievement for students with disabilities, the Colorado Department of Education selected NW BOCES to receive the grant because of it's strong collaboration among districts, the release stated.
A literacy grant coordinator will be hired to facilitate grant activities during a three-year period it said in the release, with a least one representative from each district to serve on a Regional Literacy Committee.
The grant will also fund literacy professional development opportunities, home literacy initiatives and technology to support literacy instruction.
