Nominations open for lighting contest
‘Tis the season when the amount of money people spend seems to rise because people have increased their purchase of everything. From food to gifts, people are shelling out money in preparation for the holidays. Even utility costs increase as the days become cooler and people fortify their homes against the cold and snow.
Two Craig organizations want to put cash back into the pockets of consumers with the Holiday Home Lighting Contest sponsored by Yampa Valley Electric Association (YVEA) and the Craig Daily Press.
Stepping into the spirit of the holidays, many Craig residents decorate their homes for Christmas and, for those who go all-out, the Craig Daily Press and YVEA want to offer a little help with that electric bill.
Nominations are now open for the annual Holiday Home Lighting Contest. To make a nomination, call the Craig Daily Press at 824-7031 and leave the address and the name of the homeowners. The deadline for entries is Dec. 21. Homes will be judged Dec. 22 and winners announced in the Craig Daily Press Dec. 24.
For those who have a Christmas tradition of driving around the town to see the lights on display, a list of the homes nominated will also be published in the Craig Daily Press.
For their efforts, the first-place winner will receive $100; second, $75; and third, $25.
