No bidders bite on courthouse annex
There wasn’t much interest in purchasing the Moffat County Courthouse Annex on Monday.
The county held an auction for the property, but no one met the minimum bid of $252,377.
The auction was held at the annex, which sits at 200 West Victory Way, directly across the street from the courthouse, but Edward Jones investment representative Dean Brosious was the only person to take a bidder card.
Brosious said after the auction that he didn’t think the property was worth the minimum bid.
“The numbers didn’t work,” Brosious said.
Moffat County Treasurer Robert Razzano, who served as auctioneer Monday, doubts the county will try to sell the property at a lower price.
“We’re not really desperate to sell it,” Razzano said.
The county might, however, be interested in leasing the property, Razzano said.
Selling county property that isn’t in use was one of Commissioner Saed Tayyara’s campaign promises.
Tayyara said he still hoped to sell the annex, despite the outcome of the auction.
“We want to put the building back into the tax rolls,” Tayyara said.
Profits from the annex sale will be used for a variety of purposes, Tayyara said, including the purchase of new equipment for the Road and Bridge Department.
Moffat County Commis-sioner Tom Gray said the commissioners would discuss what to do with the annex in the coming weeks.
Buyers who are interested in the property still can make offers. Offers meeting the minimum bid requirement must be approved by the commissioners. Offers less than the minimum bid will require county approval and a second auction.
