Orientation set for Horizons volunteers

Horizons Specialized Services is seeking volunteers from Craig to teach its clients how to ski, snowboard and snowshoe.

The nonprofit organization serves people with developmental disabilities and mental retardation in Northwest Colorado.

Volunteers who spend seven Saturday afternoons skiing or snowboarding with Horizons clients will receive free lift tickets from Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp.

Volunteers who spend eight Thursday afternoons cross-country skiing or snowshoeing with Horizons clients will receive free trail passes from the Steamboat Ski Touring Center.

Orientation for Horizons Volunteer Ski & Snowboard Program is from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, in the Roundup Room at Gondola Square in Steamboat Springs.

To register as a volunteer, call the Horizons volunteer coordinator at 879-4466, ext. 116.

Breastfeeding Support Group offered by VNA

The Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association will offer a Breastfeeding Support Group in Moffat County. All women who are interested in breastfeeding are encouraged to attend, including those who are pregnant.

The first meeting is at 1 p.m. Jan. 30 in the VNA Gold Conference Room.

Youth soccer league registration starting

The spring soccer season is fast approaching. Registration is from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and Jan. 25 at Craig Middle School.

There also will be registration at Centennial Mall on Saturday. The fees are $70 for registration and $30 for uniforms. Participants will keep their uniforms and will be able to reuse them. There is a discount for families registering more than one child.

Parents or guardians must have copies of the participants’ birth certificates (even for those who have registered before) and pictures of their children. Payment is due upon registration.

The deadline for registration is Jan 30. The group won’t accept late registration.
