Firewood, Christmas tree permits available

Permits to cut firewood and Christmas trees in Routt National Forest are available at Forest Service offices in Steamboat Springs, Yampa, Walden and Kremmling. Forest Service employees will be at the BLM office in Craig from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m Fridays through Dec. 23 so permits can be obtained locally.

Firewood permits are $20 for two cords of fuel wood. It is necessary to have a permit card for every pickup or trailer load of wood removed from the National Forest.

Both permits allow cutting only within certain guidelines. Forest Service personnel will provide details about cutting firewood and Christmas tree cutting at the time of permit issuance.

For more information, call the Forest Service in Steamboat Springs at 870-1870.
