New theft charges for resident

A Craig woman sentenced in September to a community corrections program for theft was arrested Monday and faces a new theft charge.

Wanda Jean LaFord, 45, of Craig, was arrested Monday at the hotel where she worked. Police say she stole money from hotel rooms.

The owners of Traveler Inn, 2690 W. Victory Way, told police they thought an employee was stealing money from rooms, Craig police Chief Walt Vanatta said.

The owners placed marked bills in a room, which were taken, Vanatta said. Police reported finding the marked bills on LaFord and arrested her Monday, Vanatta said.

LaFord was booked into Moffat County Jail on charges of misdemeanor theft from a building and felony community corrections violation.

LaFord was charged with stealing between $5,000 and $15,000 from the Daily Press last summer. LaFord worked at the newspaper as a courier.
