The Craig branch of Moffat County Libraries is getting a new roof.

Work started on the project Aug. 14. and is expected to be completed by Oct. 1.

The county budgeted $170,000 for the roof and in May awarded the project to Contract West Roofing of Salt Lake City for a fixed price of $166,700.

For the past 15 to 17 years, maintenance crews have had to tighten the screws each summer and patch and repair the old roof to reduce damage to books, said Moffat County Director of Development Services Roy Tipton.

As part of the project, contractors are removing and replacing the roof with new waterproofing, steel and concealed fasteners that will allow for expansion without the screws loosening.
