Neita Drake: These are good kids; give them a break
These are good kids; give them a break
To the editor:
I would like to reply to Mr. Albaugh’s letter about the picture in the Daily Press.
First let me say that, as parents, we are all saddened by the death of a 17-year-old child. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends. However, to associate these two incidents is insane, one had nothing to do with the other.
The boys in this picture had played in a hard-fought football game Friday night, and rather than sit at home with their heads hung low, they chose to go out and support the seventh- and eighth-grade football teams and then to go cheer Jake Miller and the rest of the cross-country team on in their race. Jake has been known as “Milla Tyme” for as long as I have known him; they simply were showing him their support. You may want to find these things out before you speak about something you are, how did you put it, totally ignorant about.
It seems more than a little judgmental to me to assume because they are teenage boys they are supporting or engaging in underage drinking. As for your assuming that the Craig Daily Press is ignorant of programs to influence positive activities in these kids’ lives, when was the last time you attended a Moffat County football game, basketball game, a track meet, a play or any other school activity where you will find the Craig Daily Press and these boys? When was the last time you stopped by a fundraiser for Moffat County Young Life, where you will find the Craig Daily Press and these boys? The last time you attended anything going on with our youths, I can guarantee you the Craig Daily Press was there. Are you getting my point?
So, Mr. Albaugh, rather than ride your judgmental high horse, why don’t you get involved with our youths and make a positive influence, I presume you have ideas?
As for these boys you owe them an apology, along with us as their parents and the Craig Daily Press.
I am very proud to say I am one of the moms of these boys. I hope they continue to support each other now and always, despite the narrow mindedness of Mr. Albaugh. How about some support and encouragement for our kids doing something good instead of constant criticism of what you think they are doing wrong.
I am outraged with Mr. Albaugh and his letter and the kind of ignorance that assumes all teenagers are bad. There are some great teenagers out there. Those in the picture are great. I know them personally.
