NCCPH members: NCCPH hosts fundraisers

— To the editor:

This is in response to Keath’s April 8 and Julie’s April 9 letters to the editor. The Northwest Colorado Chapter of Parrottheads has recognized the importance of music, so we have banded together with Craig Middle School and Craig Intermediate School to help provide musical instruments and equipment to those schools.

The idea is to put real instruments into the hands of any child who wants to learn to play and read music.

We feel children who learn to read music usually do better scholastically, thus making them well-rounded people. Music students and music lovers appear to be happier people. Just look at the way they snap their fingers, tap their toes and sing to the tune of music. When we say any child, we mean those families that may not be able to afford or rent an instrument for their children.

Last year, NCCPH conducted a silent auction fundraiser, which raised about $1,200. This year, we are planning an instrument drive. Any unwanted instruments can be dropped off at J.W. Snacks during Craig Clean Up Week, May 11 to 17.

Those instruments will, in turn, be given to the schools to be refurbished. The NCCPH intends to host various fundraisers throughout the year, including another silent auction.

A portion of the proceeds from these fundraisers will pay for the restoration of the instruments that are donated.
