NBA match-ups headline sports viewing options today
After all the presents are opened and before Christmas dinner is served, sports fans will have some options for checking out games on the tube.
Starting a busy basketball slate today is Derrick Rose and the Chicago Bulls (18-9 overall, 7-6 road) traveling to New York to battle Amar’e Stoudemire and the new look Knicks (17-12 overall, 7-7 home) at 10 a.m. on ESPN.
At 12:30 p.m., the Boston Celtics (23-4 overall, 10-3 road) head south to take on the Orlando Magic (16-12 overall, 9-5 home) in a rematch of last year’s Christmas showdown.
The Celtics-Magic game will air on ABC.
Following the Celtics-Magic game at 3:30 p.m. on ABC is perhaps the day’s marquee match-up as Lebron James, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh lead the Miami Heat (21-9 overall, 9-5 road) into Los Angeles to play Kobe Bryant and the two-time defending NBA champion L.A. Lakers (21-8 overall, 10-3 home).
There’s some hometown flavor tipping off at 6 p.m. Carmelo Anthony and the Denver Nuggets (16-11 overall, 4-9 road) face Kevin Durant and the Okalahoma City Thunder (20-10, 10-5 home).
The game, which will be played in Oklahoma City, will air on ESPN.
Finally, the Portland Trailblazers (15-14 overall, 5-11 road), minus an injured Brandon Roy, will head to Oakland to take on Monta Ellis and the Golden State Warriors (10-18 overall, 6-6 home) at 8:30 p.m. on ESPN.
But, basketball isn’t the only thing on today’s sports agenda.
The NFL will also be in action at 5:30 p.m., when the Dallas Cowboys (5-9 overall, 3-3 road) head to Phoenix to take on the Arizona Cardinals (4-10 overall, 3-4 home) on the NFL Network.
With both teams out of playoff contention, pride is the only thing on the line tonight.
