A public event next week in Craig will include activities that emphasize community partnerships for a “safer America,” according to a news release from the Craig Police Department.

The 2010 National Night Out, a national community policing program that promotes crime prevention and community safety programs, is scheduled to take place at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Once again, Wendy’s in Craig is hosting the event in the restaurant’s parking lot on West Victory Way.

An assortment of local agencies are participating, including the Craig Police Department, Moffat County Sheriff’s Office, Craig Regional Communications Center, Colorado State Patrol, Craig Fire/Rescue, Moffat County Victim’s Assistance, Colorado State Parks, Colorado Division of Wildlife, Bureau of Land Management, The Memorial Hospital and others.

Activities include:

• Public viewing of a variety of equipment on display from participating agencies.

• Giveaways for children.

• A station for child seat safety checks.

• Appearances by Eddie Eagle, Fred E. Fox, McGruff, Trooper Buck L. Up and Wendy.

Information will also be available on community programs, including Neighborhood Watch and CrimeStoppers.

Residents unable to attend National Night Out are asked to contribute to the cause by leaving their porch lights turned on as a “national symbol against crime,” according to the police department’s release.
