After picking up wins both individually and as a group in December, Moffat County girls wrestling continued with a tone of victory into the new year.

MCHS won the West Grand Invitational Saturday in Kremmling, with all Bulldog athletes gaining placement on the podium.

Junior Kayla Deaton took the highest placement with a win in the 125-pound class, going undefeated with four falls and a win by medical forfeit, picking up several weeks after a championship at last month’s Warrior Classic.

MCHS picked up several silver honors, with Amanaki George (140), Niyla Ennis (170), Emily Hockaday (190) and Kearra Cicchini (235) each finishing as the runner-up in their category.

The smaller tournament meant smaller brackets, which meant many of the squad’s matches were against each other, with Bulldog athletes holding nothing back against their own teammates.

Sydney Brazeal (105), Ryleigh Hedman (125) and Sydney Preston (130) each placed third, while Abi Clay (100), Mackenzie Moore (105), Miriam Jimenez (130), HayLee Staker (140), Vanessa Herrera (145), and Callah Caperton (170) each took fourth.

Both the MCHS boys and girls wrestling teams will next travel to this weekend’s Tournament of Champions in Vernal, Utah.
