The Moffat County High School track and field teams saw some great results Friday afternoon during the Coal Ridge Invitational in New Castle. MCHS girls placed fourth overall and boys were sixth in a day that saw more wins than any other so far this season.
The 200-meter dash event belonged to the Bulldogs, with Kayla Pinnt and Shandon Hadley taking the gold in both the girls and boys events, with times of 25.80 and 23.66 seconds, respectively.
Pinnt also won the 400 dash, clocking in at one minute 1.18 seconds. The multi-talented runner was also part of the girls 4×100 relay effort, she and teammates Selena Hernandez, Emma Samuelson and Ary Shaffer winning it at 51.13.
Elsewhere, Eddie Smercina led the field part of the day by hitting a new best in the boys long jump, 20 feet 8.75 inches.
Altogether, MCHS athletes achieved 37 personal bests for the season during the event. The junior varsity group will next attend the Palisade JV Meet Wednesday, while varsity will be at the Phil Wertman Invitational Friday hosted by Fruita Monument High School, both taking place at Grand Junction’s Stocker Stadium.
