Moffat County swimmers take 10th at league championships
Coach: ‘We finished the season strong’
The Moffat County High School girls swim team closed its season on a high note with a 10th place finish at the Southwest League Championships Friday and Saturday at Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction.
Though state qualifying times remained just out of reach for the group, the Bulldogs hit new marks in nearly every event, some in the preliminaries and some in the finals.
Overall in final results, Micah Espinosa was seventh in the 100-yard breaststroke at a personal best of one minute, 19.25 seconds, while Alex Samuelson took 15th in the 50-yard freestyle and 16th in the 100-yard freestyle with times of 28.27 and 1:04.07, respectively.
Marissa Hulstine placed 12th in the 500-yard freestyle (6:17.90) and 15th in the 200-yard event (2:22.17). Bailey Kurz was 14th in the 100-yard backstroke (1:12.59) and 16th in the 200-yard individual medley (2:44.16).
The foursome of Kurz, Espinosa, Hulstine and Alex Samuelson captured eighth place in the 200-yard medley relay (2:11.28), with the team of Allie Dilldine, Emma Samuelson, Natelyn Singleton and Jaycee Holman coming in 15th at 2:26.21.
Finally, in the 400-yard freestyle relay, Dilldine, Homan, Singleton and Espinosa were 16th with a time of 4:46.81.
Coach Jeff Wert said he was pleased to see all his swimmers go the distance.
“I’m so proud of the girls, we finished the season strong,” he said.
