The spring flew by for the members of the Moffat County girls soccer team, and putting another notch in the win column provided the boost younger players needed as they competed for the final time with upperclassmen.
Senior Night on May 1 saw a 2-0 victory for the Bulldogs over Grand Valley, marking the second W for the team after a six-year drought.
Before taking on the Cardinals, the Dogs saluted their eight seniors: Caitlyn Adams, Ariana Buchanan, Marisol Chaparro, Gracie Cox, Kenya Hernandez, Alyssa LeWarne, Gabrielle Riley and Mena Tucker.
The final outing on the field was bittersweet for the seniors and their coach.
“It went pretty good, made some good plays,” Riley said. “I’ve gotten a lot more confident in this thanks to my coaches. I’ll miss these girls’ energy, it’s always a good time.”
The second shutout of the season was a tightly contested one, and while none of the MoCo seniors scored in their final game, MCHS coach Trinitie Beckner was thrilled as sophomore Maddie Larsen and freshman Janelle Tarango showed their capabilities by netting goals.
“They were a little nervous and high-energy with a game like this, but by the time the second half came around, they were on fire,” Becker said. “Moffat County’s gonna be a force to be reckoned with the next few years, and I can’t wait for everybody to see it.”
