It’s time to fish again at Little Rascals Pond.

From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Moffat County Sheriff’s Office will be hosting Cops, Vets and Kids, a family oriented event that signals the pond’s official opening for the summer season.

Police officers, Sheriff’s Office officials and Craig veterans will come together to teach children how to fish and to assist those who already are skilled at the sport.

Moffat County Sheriff KC Hume said the pond is well stocked and ready for the kids. There will be food and prizes as well.

“Seeing those little kiddos with smiles on their faces — there’s nothing better,” Hume said.

Last year, vets and officers gave away fishing poles, coolers and other angling gear that was sure to keep kids fishing all summer.

Just like in years past, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4265 will be providing hotdogs, hamburgers and beverages, said VFW member Mark Wick.

“We’re going to set up a tent, get a fire going and cook for the kids, and they’re going to fish and we’re all going to have a good afternoon,” Wick said.

Little Rascals Pond is adjacent to the Public Safety Center, located at 800 W. First St.

It was built with the intention of providing children with their own spot to fish. In 2010, it underwent $42,000 worth of renovations to improve walkways and add a wheelchair accessible dock.
