Moffat County sends seven to Honor Band
The Moffat County High School band program sent seven of its musicians to the CMEA Music District 8 Honor Band event Nov. 8 and 9 in Glenwood Springs.
The event included 75 student musicians from 14 schools across the region.
After a full day of rehearsals on the first day, the students prepared five challenging pieces, culminating in a concert at Glenwood Springs High School the following evening.
The Honor Band was conducted by Dr. Erik Johnson, associate professor of music education at Colorado State University, who worked with the students to bring their hard work to life in a final performance.
“This event highlighted the dedication of these young musicians and their commitment to continuing a long tradition of excellence within the Moffat County music program,” said MCHS band director Lia Arnold.
With auditions required to attend, MCHS saw four seniors, two sophomores and one freshman earn spots in the band.
MCHS students included three woodwind musicians — clarinetists Hannah Kilpatrick, Shane Del Toro and Moriah Hodnefield — and four members of the brass section — Kaidin Anthony on euphonium, Jesse Terry on trumpet, and Zach Womble and Jayne Neal on the trombone.
