Moffat County School board takes action at workshop, meeting

Craig Daily Press Staff Report

At its workshop Thursday afternoon, the Moffat County School Board:

• Reviewed policies 5510 and 5280, concerning student dress code and home-based education, respectively.

• Heard a progress report from Maximum Commitment to Excellence, a grassroots group designed to bolster education in Moffat County.

• Took a tutorial on the fiscal year 2012 budget revision and financial report.

At its regular meeting Thursday, the Moffat County School Board:

• Heard a report about the Moffat County High School agricultural education program. The presentation included information about the Colorado Career Cluster Model, which groups careers and industries based on the knowledge and skills employees are required to have in them.

• Heard a building report on Craig Middle School. Portions of the school’s north wing were restricted to students in December after KL&A, an engineering firm, found areas didn’t meet building code. According to a letter from The Neenan Co., the Moffat County School District’s general contractor for CMS construction, the company finished work Jan. 3 at CMS. On Jan. 13, KL&A concluded that the building was up to code following The Neenan Co.’s repairs, which came at no cost to the school district.

• Approved, 5-0, a first reading on policies 5510 and 5280.

• Adopted, 5-0, a revised fiscal year 2012 budget.

• Approved, 5-0, a personnel report that included naming Dave Grabowski interim assistant principal at MCHS.

Note: Board president Sandie Johns and board member Tony St. John were absent from Thursday’s meeting.
