Garrett Uptain claimed the trifecta in the three-day event, winning the saddle bronc event each day. Other first-place Moffat County results came for Kinlie Brennise in the first day of pole bending, Cutter Barnes and Dusty Taylor in the opening day of team roping and Kasen Brennise and Trent Vernon in the first and third day tie down roping events, respectively.
Additionally, Eric Logan, of Yampa, claimed a win in the Day 2 steer wrestling on behalf of the team.
Other competitors included Jace Logan — right behind Eric in second place in steer wrestling — Kelten Burch, who was in boys cutting, and Dillon Burch and Ty Pinnt, both in bull riding.
After one week, local riders and ropers are already in great position on the all-around points score sheet, with Kinlie Brennise in second place among Colorado high school athletes thanks to a plethora of events giving her 73 points among the girls. On the boys list, Barnes and Taylor share the second place ranking with 40 points apiece after the weekend.
The MCHS and Craig Middle School home rodeo takes place at 10 a.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. Sunday at the Moffat County Fairgrounds, with bareback riding, chute dogging, and ribbon roping also added to the list of events planned.
