Moffat County shooters aimed big recently at the 4-H competition at the State Fair, and their skills were apparent.

The yearly test of talent saw Moffat County marksmen score well in the rifle and archery competitions held in Pueblo Aug. 22 and 23.

The senior rifle team composed of Hunter Rummel, Eli Ellis, Angela Hill and Lane White topped the state rankings in both the hunting and scope categories, each of which Rummel also won first place individually.

Additionally, Rummel took second in the four-position rifle, utility air rifle and air pistol shoots.

The junior rifle group composed of Gabrielle Ellis, Joey Gates, Chloe Villard, Forrest Siminoe, Joseph Winters and Laadan Rothermund had its best results in the age group with a third-place finish in the hunting division, with Gabrielle Ellis leading in third individually.

Additional junior rifle shooters included Donovan Converse, Tayla Siminoe and Chloe Villard, while Mackenzie Schneider-Ott competed in the air gun events.

Both Schneider-Ott and Logan Knez also shot in the muzzleloader division, which was fairly new for area kids, said coach Jody Lee.

“All these kids did awesome,” he said, noting teams as small as were four were going up against Front Range competitors with dozens on their rosters.

In archery, both the senior compound unlimited and limited teams placed second, with the former made up of Jordan Kainz, Cutter Polly, Jaci McDiffett, Weston Brady, Brittany Schulze and Jacob Briggs, the latter Nick Pugh, Kyla Pogline, Steven Walls, Ben Pugh, Sam Walls and Brandon Beason.

Nick Pugh placed highest in third and Kainz in fourth individually.

The junior compound unlimited team of Jerzey Landa, Kimber Wheeler, Kelsey McDiffett, Winter Rogers, Jentry Bacon and Garett Stockman took third, and compound limited was fifth, with Emma Knez, Tiffany Hill, Blake Duncan, Brenna Knez, Faith Berkey and Everett Reglin.

In the traditional recurve, Brandon Madsen placed fifth in the junior field, and Christa Bird was 18th for the seniors.

4-H shotgun will compete at state this weekend as well.
