Moffat County Republicans to host debate watch party Tuesday

Quotable...

“This is a very unique election. Every vote has always counted, every vote is always important, but this is probably the first election where 10 to 100 votes can make a difference in winning Colorado."

— Frank Moe, coordinator for the "Get Out The Vote" Republican project, about votes for Romney in this year's election

The Moffat County “Get Out The Vote” Republican project group is hosting a debate watch party Tuesday at the Hampton Inn in Craig.

Project coordinator Frank Moe and other local volunteers have set a goal of getting 2,000 more votes for the Republican Party from Moffat County residents than in 2008, making a jump from 4,135 to 6,135. The group has challenged other counties on the Western Slope to outdo them.

The party is limited to registered voters and will kickoff at 5:30 p.m. with a volunteer event lasting until 6:30 p.m. From 7 to 9 p.m., the group will watch the presidential debate.

Moe said there will be serving hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, snacks and beverages for dinner as well as door prizes and calls from some major organizers from the Romney campaign in Colorado.

Moe said one of the biggest reasons the group is having the debate party is because Romney came to Craig and said he would not forget Craig, Colorado.

“To me, that means that if issues especially like clean coal energy come up, Romney is going to promote our clean coal and also promote all our other energy sources,” Moe said.

Expecting a large showing, Moe said the watch party also aims to recruit volunteers.

“This is the first presidential debate watch party we’ve had,” Moe said. “We’d like to get everyone who comes to volunteer as much as they can, going door to door, making calls to get people to vote for Gov. Romney.”

Moe said James Garcia, the state director for Romney’s presidential campaign, would be calling to encourage the party. Moe also said the head person for the Romney campaign on the Western Slope would be coming from Grand Junction to attend the party.

Moe said he felt it was his and other area Republicans’ duty to do their best to get Romney elected.

“In my personal opinion, one president is going to help our economy; that’s Romney. And one president, Obama, is definitely against coal, along with Ken Salazar,” Moe said. “That hurts our local economy.”

Moe said regardless of party affiliation, Moffat County residents should think of our local economy.

“This is a very unique election. Every vote has always counted, every vote is always important, but this is probably the first election where 10 to 100 votes can make a difference in winning Colorado,” Moe said.
