Moffat County golfers drive toward strong start as season begins

Moffat County High School boys golf has teed off the start of its season.

The Bulldogs hit the links Monday and Tuesday at Grand Junction-area spots Adobe Creek National Golf Course in Fruita  and Redlands Mesa Golf Club, both of which were hosted by Fruita Monument High School.

Senior Torin Reed placed ninth both days, shooting a 77 at Adobe Creek and 80 at Redlands.

Freshman David Andujo tied for 19th Monday with an 85, placing 21st Tuesday at 86.

Connor Etzler took 31st with a 90 tally the first day, shooting the same score Tuesday but moving up the rankings to 22nd.

A rough first day saw Tyler Burkett shoot 104 at Adobe only to improve considerably at Redlands with a 97, while Tanner Etzler took a 107 in the opener with a 121 Tuesday.

The MCHS boys golf team is not scheduled for another competition until Aug. 27 at Grand Junction’s Bookcliff followed by Aug. 28 at Rifle Creek and the Sept. 5 home tournament at Yampa Valley Golf Course.
