Coach Sam McLeod made some adjustments to his starting lineup, sending in Katia Voloshin to tip off and Alex Hamilton in place of an ailing Kayla Pinnt to join fellow starters Morgan Lawton, Leah Camilletti and Josey King.

It was the second game without Pinnt — who is fighting bronchitis — her absence felt when the Lady Dogs took their first WSL defeat in Olathe.

"It was a lot of things combined," Lawton said of the previous night's loss, in which Moffat County girls had communication issues and struggled to score.

No such hindrances were apparent back at home — Lawton put in the first bucket, with Basalt's Kaity Johnson responding with her own two points.

That was the only time the score would be tied for the afternoon, the Lady Dogs embarking on a 27-point run for the remainder of the quarter, the Longhorns silenced until the start of the second as Kate Schrock hit a three-pointer.

MCHS was ahead, 42-13, at halftime, but the Bulldog bludgeoning wasn't over yet. Basalt had its best moments returning from the locker room as the two teams went back and forth in a 20-18 third quarter, but Moffat County maintained double digits every period, including a flurry of fourth quarter field goals by Mattie Jo Duzik.

Lawton led with 23 points, Camilletti had 21 with four threes and Voloshin nine total points.

Duzik and Hamilton each finished with eight, and King and Makenna Baker had four apiece.

MCHS's total shooting was 35 out of 71, four for eight from outside and three out of six free throws. The game was the sixth this season in which Lady Dogs won by more than 40 points.

"We definitely needed this game to connect after the adversity of last night," King said. "We really worked together (Saturday), didn't think about individuals, looked at what was open and no matter who it was gave it to them."

Schrock put in 10 points for the Longhorns, Carsyn Knotts eight and Cintia Miramontes five. Basalt hit 15 for 39 shots, three out of 10 threes and five for 11 foul shots in a game that put them 2-12, 2-8 WSL.

Friday brings Coal Ridge to Craig, the 5-5 Titans the victim of Moffat County's biggest win this year, 86-28. Roaring Fork — beaten in January, 63-20 — follows the next day.

Prior scores are irrelevant, however, in King's eyes.

"Big games both nights," she said of the upcoming weekend.
