Things are moving at just the right pace as the members of the Moffat County High School cross country team move into the final part of their season.

The teams will be attending the 3A Region 1 competition Friday in Delta, and if their performance last week is any indication, Moffat County may be state-bound.

The Rifle Invitational saw some of the best times of the season for local runners, particularly among the boys, led by Ashley Suits, hitting a personal milestone with a time of 17 minutes, 45 seconds in a 10th-place finish. Riley Allen was close behind in 14th at 17:54, also an individual best.

Andrew Keiss, Isaac Chacon, Remmy Kohpay, Drew Rothermund and Tyler Driggs also clocked in at their fastest times yet, while Brandon Beason, Garrett Flint, Nick Pugh and Connor Knez continued to burn up the path, as did newcomer Indy Byrnes, whose first race brought him 46th place.

The boys took fourth place, and the girls got third, with top finisher Emily Womble holding strong below the 20-minute mark with a 19:57 and third place, as Ary Shaffer and Allie Dilldine were only a footstep apart, coming in at 10th and 11th place, respectively, each with 20:49.

Kaylee Durham was the sole MCHS girl to beat her own record in Rifle, at 21:37 and 17th place, while sisters Delaney and Makenna Baker ran hard, finishing 22nd and 43rd.
