Moffat County Commissioner Dec. 9 meeting recap

At the weekly Moffat County Commissioners meeting, commissioners discussed the following topics:

During general discussion:

Commissioner Chuck Grobe discussed going to a meeting for Gov. John Hickenlooper's oil and gas task force on Wednesday in Rifle. He and Commissioners Tom Mathers and John Kinkaid will attend the meeting and participate in a panel, press conference and public comment period.

Director of Development Services Roy Tipton said the Shadow Mountain project is still on schedule to finish in three years, and he is working on procuring another grant for the second phase.

City Council member Ray Beck said the Craig City Council, Moffat County Commissioners and representatives from Colorado Parks and Wildlife will discuss the fate of Elkhead Reservoir tonight at 5:30 before the Craig City Council's biweekly meeting.

Jan Gerber of the Museum of Northwest Colorado said during the Down Home Christmas celebration, more than 150 people went through the museum.

Gerber also presented two oil and gas leases that total more than $71,000 combined. Both are for land west of Craig and commissioners approved the leases 3-0.

Jeff Comstock, director of Moffat County department of natural resources, said he estimates Southwestern Energy will bring more mineral leases in the near future.

John Rossfeld and Jennifer Riley of The Memorial Hospital presented the hospital's strategic three-year plan to commissioners. The plan includes discussion on focused areas, such as staff relations, customer service and budget goals.

"It's an aggressive plan, but one that we feel strongly that we can do," Rossfeld said.

Riley said the hospital's walk-in clinic, open since Nov. 3, has seen between 15 and 25 patients per day. She also encouraged commissioners and others in the community to get a flu shot and be aware of flu season.
