Moffat County Commission recap for Aug. 11

Moffat County Commissioners did the following Tuesday morning at their weekly meeting:

During general discussion:

• Commissioner Chuck Grobe reminded the audience that the deadline to make a comment on the Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement’s environmental analysis for Colowyo Coal Mine is Friday. Comments must be postmarked by Friday.

• Grobe said the Bureau of Land Management has sent a four-page reply to the county’s challenge of data used in the formation of BLM’s sage grouse environmental impact statement.

• Steve Hickenmeyer, Moffat County Land Use Board chairman, provided an update on the travel management plan from the BLM’s Little Snake Field Office. The plan is supposed to meant all of the routes in Moffat County and Hickenmeyer said BLM has already greatly benefited from the county’s input.

“A lot of the roads that they missed, we’ve got people that are out there driving them today,” he said.

• Commissioner John Kinkaid informed attendees that Moffat County has been approved for a Colorado Department of Local Affairs grant that will cover phase three of the Shadow Mountain Village improvement project. Roy Tipton, Moffat County Development Services director said phase three consists of work Sequoia Street up to the bypass and construction will begin next spring.

On the agenda:

• John Rossfeld, CEO of The Memorial Hospital, and Jennifer Riley, chief of marketing and business development at TMH, provided a hospital update to the commissioners.

On Sept. 1, TMH will be implementing a new data management system for medical records. Rossfeld said there will be some hiccups as they adjust to the new system but it should be a good change once it is up and running. TMH has also switched Joint Commission accreditation to DNV. The hospital has already undergone its survey and Rossfeld said he think it will receive a good review.
