Moffat County Commission cancels Tuesday meeting

The Moffat County Commission did not convene for its regular meeting Tuesday.

Erin Miller, an administrative assistant to the commission, drafts the commission's agenda on Fridays. She said no one notified her of an action item for this week's meeting, and the commissioners decided to cancel the meeting.

"This is the first time in the six years I've worked here that we canceled a meeting because there were no agenda items," Miller said. "We've moved meetings in the past because of an election and other conflicts, but we've never had to actually cancel a meeting before."

Commissioner Tom Gray said Tuesday was the first time in his six-year tenure there wasn't a weekly commission meeting.

"There's no sense in meeting if there's nothing to talk about," he said.

In the past, Gray said commission meetings took place twice a month and were usually all-day meetings. He could not remember an instance in which one of those meetings was canceled, but was sure it hasn't happened since the commission started meeting each week.

Commissioner Tom Mathers agreed with Gray's position on not meeting this week.

"There's no sense in having a meeting just to say you had a meeting," Mathers said.

The commissioners expect to host next week's regular meeting at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 11 at the courthouse.
