Missing Craig boy found after being spotted at fairgrounds
CRAIG — A Craig boy who has been missing since Thursday evening was returned home safely late Sunday, Aug. 12, after being spotted at the Moffat County Fairgrounds.
“JJ (Johnathan Mounce) was spotted at the fairgrounds last night with a friend and then they took off, but his friend was recognized, and my husband got ahold of the friend’s mom and the cops, and between them, they were able to track him down,” said the boy’s mother, Lena Mounce.
Mounce reported her 13-year-old son missing to the Craig Police Department, then posted a request for help on her Facebook page, on Saturday, Aug. 11.
“Please, please, please, if you see my son JJ please call me or my husband or the Craig Police Department,” she wrote in her post after her son failed to return home or check in.
In an interview with the Craig Press on Sunday, Mounce added, “As far as I know, initially, he just snuck out but hasn’t been seen since.”
Craig Police Chief Jerry DeLong said he did not yet know if charges would be filed in the case, nor was he able to comment on any details.
“Thank you to everyone that helped us look for him to ensure that he would make it home safe and sound,” Mounce posted on Facebook Monday.
