Mike Wilson: Gas price in Craig is fixed

— It’s true folks.

We’ve been reading the comments in the Daily Press concerning gas prices in Craig. Well folks, what you are saying is completely true: In Craig gas prices are either “fixed” or just a complete rip off, and found out when we traveled from our home on the Olympic Peninsula to Colorado Springs to attend a wedding.

On our return home we decided to spend the night in Craig, just to see how much it had changed since we moved away in 1998. We decided to wait until arriving in Craig to fuel up. What a mistake! We watched the gas prices in Steamboat and Hayden and thought, well let’s try Craig. Prices in Steamboat and Hayden were at least 20• a gallon cheaper.

Here is a breakdown of gas prices on our trip:

• Yakima, Wash. – $2.74 gallon

• Jerome, Idaho – $2.77 gallon

• Evanston, Wyo. – $2.55 gallon (cheapest)

• Loveland – $2.90 gallon

• Woodland Park – $2.97 gallon,

• And then the infamous Craig – $3.18 gallon.

Folks, you can see there is no way but “price fixing” that service stations in Craig can charge these prices. The station we filled up at, at 9 a.m., did not have any water in the windshield washing buckets, just some mud in the bottom of all three.

I went into the office to “advise” management to at least put water out so one can wash the windshield. The attendant, a woman, was on the phone in a side office and, as I waited, she finally came out, with the phone still in her hand, and when I advised her that if they were going to charge these kind of prices for gas, she could at least put clean water out for cleaning windshields, she didn’t say one word, turned around and went back into her office slamming the door.

Yes, I will be contacting her “home” office in Cheyenne, Wyo. to advise them of the rudeness of their management in Craig.

As you can see from the above pricing from far west Washington, through Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming and into Colorado, you poor residents of Craig are surely being ripped Welcome to Craig America, and get ripped off. How many others are saying the same thing, don’t stop in Craig.

On a side note, we did enjoy the food while there.
