It’s Thanksgiving week, the official beginning to the holiday season and an open invitation to gorge yourself for five weeks straight. Enjoy the merriment, thankful spirit and memories that come with the indigestion.

■ If you don’t have family plans on Thanksgiving, head to one of three community meals.

Faith Lutheran Church hosts a potluck-style meal at noon Thursday at the church, 580 Green St. Call 824-3043 to find out more.

There’s another potluck at 1 p.m. Thursday at Yampa Valley Baptist Church, 3900 E. Victory Way. Get info. from 824-5424.

St. Michael’s Kitchen, 678 School St., hosts its weekly Thursday meal from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday. Everyone’s invited for the full Thanksgiving spread. Get details by calling 824-7148.

■ The annual Parade of Lights takes to the streets at 6 p.m. Saturday to get you pumped for Christmas.

It starts at Craig Middle School and goes south on Yampa Avenue, turns west on Victory Way and then heads north on Ledford Street.

It’s not too late to host a float. Pick up a form at the Community Budget Center, or if you don’t wish to compete, just show up at the staging area before 6 p.m.

■ Thanksgiving is known for filling up then kicking back.

Get a whole lineup of the televised football and basketball games perfect for just that on page 16 of today’s paper.

■ Of course with Thanksgiving comes the busiest shopping day of the year — Black Friday.

So rest up Thursday night and you can be ready to run and elbow your way to the hottest electronic item.

Downtown Craig businesses are also hosting a shopping special from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday. Santa will be on hand from 2 to 5 p.m., so get your lists ready.

■ This weekend also marks a popular time to get your house decorated for Christmas.

So dig out the ornaments and string the lights.

■ West Theatre is holding onto “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 1” and “Happy Feet Two.” The theater is open on Thanksgiving if you’re in need of some post-feast laziness.

New at Redbox this week are “Super 8,” “Conan the Barbarian,” “The Devil’s Double,” “Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World” and “Sarah’s Key.”
