Men sentenced in ATV accident

Two Craig men who were riding all-terrain vehicles while intoxicated were sentenced Tuesday.

Troy Jones and Shane Eck–strom both pleaded guilty to DWAI, while Jones also pleaded guilty to eluding police.

Jones, who is moving to Utah, was sentenced to one-year probation, 48 hours of community service and had to pay more than $1,000 in court fees and fines. He also has to complete a level-two alcohol class.

Eckstrom, who is moving to Idaho, was sentenced to one-year probation, 48 hours of community service and had to pay more than $1,000 in court fees and fines. He also has to complete a level-one alcohol class.

Jones and Eckstom were arrested Sept. 10, 2004, when officers responded to a report that two men were racing ATVs on West Victory Way near Kum & Go. Before police arrived, the two allegedly crashed, and police chased the two drivers, who ran a red flashing light down Finley Lane.

Eckstrom was transported to The Memorial Hospital with shoulder injuries.

Both admitted to drinking alcohol and later were given a blood test, which indicated they had consumed alcohol.

The terms of the pleas will be allowed to be completed in Utah for Jones and Idaho for Eckstom.
