MCHS rained out against Palisade

The Moffat County High School baseball team hit the road Saturday in hopes of building off its first win of the season a few days earlier.

However, those hopes were dashed thanks to inclement weather.

MCHS, 1-7 overall and 1-3 in the Western Slope League, was scheduled to play a doubleheader at Canyon View Park in Grand Junction against Palisade High School. However, after waiting for a few hours for the weather to clear, park officials called the game off because of rain.

“We just had a long trip for nothing,” MCHS coach Tim Hafey said.

As of Sunday, a makeup date had not been announced.

On Thursday, MCHS broke into the win column with a 10-4 victory against Glenwood Springs at Craig Middle School. Lefthander Kulen Turner picked up the win with six strong innings on the hill. Emmanuel Alvarez pitched the seventh inning and got the save.

“We played pretty solid defensively all around,” Hafey said. “Our outfield was solid and our infield played well.”

In Thursday’s second game, MCHS didn’t fare quite as well. The Bulldogs fell, 10-0.

Although the team has struggled through play, and weather and scheduling difficulties thus far this season, Hafey said he doesn’t think his team is far off from rebounding.

“We’ve been really close to having a couple more wins,” he said. “I think things are going to start turning around for us.”
