— The fedora-topped man with the magnifying glass in the logo for the US West Dex phone directory will have to look mighty hard to find people with the last names of ”Allen” and ones that start with ”G.”

Those names and thousands more are missing from the 1999-2000 edition of the Denver-area white pages because of a computer glitch. A customer tipped off the company after about a quarter of the 1.4 million white-page directories were delivered.

”Luckily, we were very early in the process,” said US West Dex spokeswoman Robin Caputo.

Delivery of corrected listings will start Monday. It usually takes six to eight weeks to distribute all the phone books.

People with the last name of Allen and first names starting with ”M” and beyond won’t be found in the directory. Neither will people between Fred Gonzales and Gary Graalman.
