Man killed in roll-over crash near Meeker

Craig Daily Press Staff Report

A 79-year-old man was killed Monday when the vehicle he was traveling rolled off Colorado Highway 13, Colorado State Patrol reported in a news release.

According to the release a blue 2005 Ford Excursion carrying three people was traveling northbound at around noon on Colorado Highway 13 in south Moffat County, near milepost 61, when it crossed into the southbound lane and then drove off the left side of the road. The vehicle then rolled through a fence and landed on its driver’s side.

The 79-year-old man, who was the front seat passenger, was pronounced dead on scene. The male driver, 71, and an 82-year-old female passenger were transported to The Memorial Hospital in Craig with moderate injuries, the release stated.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash but neither alcohol nor drugs are considered factors at this time and it appears as though all three people involved were wearing seatbelts, according to the release.

Craig Fire/Rescue and the Moffat County Sherriff’s Department assisted the Colorado State Patrol on scene, the release stated.
