Magic is in the cards for reader

Rob Gebhart

Bridgette Harris often can be found in 3 C’s Card Shop either officiating or playing games of Magic: The Gathering, a trading card game that has become extremely popular since its creation in 1993.

Harris is a six-year Craig resident and she has worked at 3 C’s in Craig’s Centennial Mall since July. She’s been playing Magic for about one year.

She became aware of the game through her husband, who played but refused to teach her. Eventually, some of Harris’ friends who owned decks taught her the game.

Harris likes to play, but she loves to judge.

“I like interacting with the people. I like spending time with the players. And I love giving out the prizes,” she said.

Just becoming a judge is a challenge. Five levels of judges exist, and Harris is mentoring under one of Colorado’s two level 3 judges while studying Magic’s 300-page rule book. She’s a level 0 judge but can judge state tournaments.

Magic players can meet for a melee at 3 C’s at 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays. At 6 p.m. Wednesday, new players can learn the game and pick up a free starter deck.
