Love Inc.’s Robbie Estus says goodbye to Craig community

Robbie Estus sits at her desk at Love INC, from which she will be retiring at the end of the month. Those who have worked with her say she goes out of her way to make sure everyone who needs help receives it.

Those who know Robbie Estus describe her as quiet and humble, with a heart so huge she does everything in her power to help everyone she can.

Love INC hosted an open house Monday to celebrate Estus' service to the organization and the community as she retires at the end of the year.

This won't be the first retirement for Estus. She was a schoolteacher for 31 1/2 years, teaching at Ridgeview for 21 of those years.

Estus came to Craig in 1977 as a single parent with a 3-year-old daughter to raise.

When she retired from Ridgeview in 2003, she said she got two new knees and then started volunteering at Love INC in 2004 before she became a paid employee.

Pat Jones, executive director for Love INC, said although Estus' official title is office coordinator, her unofficial title is "my right-hand woman."

Jones said some of Estus' duties include keeping track of volunteer hours, everything relating to clients, number crunching and filling in anywhere needed.

"One of the things Robbie also does, her heart is so huge that she tries her best to find help for everyone that calls. She really goes the extra mile," Jones said.

Speaking with Estus, she said retiring and leaving Craig is really hard.

She's moving to Colorado Springs to be closer to her daughter and family who live there, including her four grandkids, and she's counting herself very blessed.

Betty Barnes, a volunteer at Love INC, said all the volunteers love Estus.

"She has a special place in her heart for the Lord and people in the community that are hurting or in need," Barnes said. "People call everyday needing something, and she deals with the people and agencies in such a loving manner."

Estus said she enjoys her work helping people, but she prefers to do the work behind the scenes and opts out of taking center stage.

"It's very important work we're doing," Estus said. "We're getting lots and lots of calls every day. Times are hard, but the churches want to help people."

Estus said she usually spends 30 to 40 hours per week working.

"It keeps me out of mischief," Estus said. "It keeps me active and going."

Estus said if the organization can't help someone out monetarily, she'll try to find another way to help.

"She is amazing. She is the most organized person I have ever met. She can really keep it together. I don't even know what else to say. I'm going to miss her so much," Jones said. "If our community had more volunteers and employees like Robbie, wow, we'd get a lot done."
