Love INC pig roast raises funds, brings Craig together
September 29, 2013
It's a special word and a special feeling, one which people can experience any number of ways, from places of worship to a table where you can break bread with friends and family.
The turnout was sizable at the Moffat County Fairgrounds Pavilion Sunday afternoon for the seventh annual Love INC pig roast and silent auction fundraiser. About 200 people came out for a good meal and good times with the people of Craig and Moffat County.
Pat Jones, executive director for Love INC, said the organization was on track to bring in at least as much as it did at last year's event, which was about $6,000.
"We always get between 5,000 and 7,000," Jones said. "But, it's always nice when we can get more."
Local businesses and individuals provided table after table with items up for bid, such as Kester Jewelry, Spirit Pass, The Jungle Pet Shop and Village Inn. Minimum bids went from one or two dollars for small toys to pieces like a saddle provided by Northwestern Tack, for which the smallest bid was $200.

The money goes toward Love INC's various community outreach programs, but the event that provides the group its greatest amount of funding each year is a venue for everyone in the community to come together and feel what Love INC is all about, namely Love in the Name of Christ.
"It's great because people are just getting out of church and they want to meet up with all their friends from the other churches and they can all just come and socialize," Jones said.
While partaking in the meal provided by the board of Love INC — and many helpful people who took the time to donate their own dishes — diners were serenaded by local chanteuse Stacey Mathers with songs of praise from her album, "It's About Love."
Jorin Rudd was also at the soundboard providing music throughout the day.
"It's pretty much everything from Patsy Cline to today," he said. "I've done it every year for them, and it helps bring more people out here."
Between the plates upon plates of good food and the tunes coming from the stage, some could hardly tear themselves away in order to peruse auction items.
Haley Barber put her name down for a nature painting and a set of kitchen knives.
"I'm trying to decide if I want to up the bid for this one," she said, motioning to the painting.
Barber has been a regular at the pig roast for the past few years.
"I love seeing a bunch of people I don't usually get to see and being able to help Love INC," she said.
Barber is part of the congregation of Craig Christian Church, but not all in attendance were committed to just one of the churches involved with Love INC.
"We visit quite a few churches, we don't really call one of them home," Todd Greenwood said. "For me, I just like being able to come out and support what they're doing here."
