Lois Wymore: MCTA board ‘blindsided’

To the editor:

The Memorial Hospital Board was not the only county board blindsided by the Moffat County Commission’s last rounds of appointments.

Kerry Moe was also dumped from the Moffat County Tourism Association Board without any notice for the “encouraging new ideas” platform of the current Moffat County Commissioners.

I question their logic in “encouraging new ideas” while dismissing the value of long-time volunteers.

According to Craig Daily Press reports, MCTA Director Melody Villard was never polled about the board nor was a commissioner present at any of the meetings to see for themselves the board dynamics.

I thought part of their job was to know what was going on with all county boards.

I have nothing against the new general manager of the Holiday Inn of Craig, but Moe is a known asset with history, passion and experience here in the tourism industry.

General managers at the Holiday Inn historically don’t last too long before they are transferred. I only remember a couple of them and there have been several.

Moe owns her business in the tourism industry, made this area her home, and quietly spent some of her time within the community and is not likely leaving the area.

This is simply another case of a woman who is a stellar community volunteer being opted out for a man.

In my opinion, it doesn’t say much about how volunteers are valued nor for the commission’s ability to discern.
