There are positions open for people wishing to serve Moffat County.

Two volunteer boards that make recommendations to the Moffat County Commission are taking letters of interest for two seats until Monday.

The Area Agency on Aging Council is looking for a new full-time delegate. Also, the Planning and Zoning Commission has an open position for an alternate member who can fill in for regular board members when necessary.

People interested should mail or e-mail letters of interest with contact information to Erin Miller, administrative assistant to the County Commission.

“It’s not strenuous work,” said Neil Folks, chairman of the Aging Council. He said the position involves staying current on matters pertaining to senior citizens and participating in meetings.

There are three Aging Council members, but it has had trouble in the past filling positions. Meetings, which take place on the first Tuesday of each month, often are in different places, such as in Steamboat Springs.

The second open county position has also been difficult to fill.

The Planning and Zoning Commission meets the first Monday of each month. In January, the commission elected five new board members but was unable to fill two alternate seats because of a lack of applicants.

Miller will collect the letters of interest and present them to the County Commission at its meeting June 30. The commission will vote on who they think will be the best fit for the position.

“It’s probably just going to be about how well the person who applies expresses their interest or their experience,” Miller said.

Once the new members are selected, they likely will start participating at the next meeting for their group in July.
