Letter: Thanks for helping with Craig’s March Madness

To the editor:

On March 17 and 18, 37 youth basketball teams participated in the annual Yampa Valley Classic basketball tournament.

Moffat County Youth Basketball (MCYB) would like to thank those organizations and individuals that allowed MCYB to successfully host 74 games in 48 hours.

First and foremost, MCYB is thankful for the generosity extended by the Moffat County School District, its administrators and the janitorial staff from Moffat County High School, Craig Middle School, and Sandrock Elementary School for allowing us to use gym space and for cleaning up the mess created by the hundreds of fans and players.

MCYB also would like to thank Sunset Elementary and the Boys & Girls Club of Craig for providing gym space for MCYB teams to practice.

Operating the games would not have been possible without the referees, scorers, timekeepers, and those MCYB parents who volunteered to work the gate. These individuals selflessly sacrificed their Saturday and Sunday to help MCYB host such a wonderful tournament.

These individuals are too great in number to list in this letter.

MCYB is continually amazed by the generosity shown by various individuals throughout the community.

Special thanks to Shannon Russell and the Craig Chamber of Commerce for assembling and providing “Welcome to Craig” packets. MCYB is also thankful for the restaurants, merchants, and hotels that offered special deals for tournament participants.

Each year it is the goal of MCYB to provide opportunities for youth to improve their basketball skills, experience the values of teamwork, and learn the importance of winning with class and losing with dignity.

MCYB is fortunate to have a roster of coaches that help us achieve this goal. MCYB appreciates the time, effort, and resources these coaches extend to help the youth of this community.
