Letter: 9Health Fair a success thanks to community support

To the editor:

The 9Health Fair was able to serve 420 people at the Craig Lions Club 32nd annual health screening at The Memorial Hospital in Craig.

The success was due to the unstinted efforts of more than 40 volunteers, and Craig Lions want to thank everyone for their help.

Beka Warren and Christine Cooper, along with Lion Kristi Shepherd, spearheaded the move of the fair to the hospital.

Volunteers from the nursing staff and students from Colorado Northwestern Community College’s nursing program manned more than 10 blood draw stations, and maintenance employees, food servers and Pink Ladies pitched in.

Dr. Tom Told and his students from Rocky Vista University in Parker traveled to Craig to provide breast exams and skin cancer screeners.

American Legion Post 62, Cedar Mountain Lions and individual community members all contributed their time and talents, including during the screenings for 120 seniors at Sunset Meadows II.

Thanks to the maintenance staff there, too. A special thanks to Red Cortner, who provided 24 cases of bottled water and to Kate Peroulis and Mary Papoulas, who helped as they have for more than 30 years, and to those who provided displays and information at the fair.

The health fair provides low cost screenings, and all money goes for the examination of the blood work.

Results will be coming soon in the mail.

Congratulations to all who take advantage of the program to take charge of their own health by supporting 9Health Fair.
