Legion team wins Wyoming tournament

The Craig American Legion team cruised through the Green River Tournament last weekend.

The Bulldogs outscored its opponents, all teams from Wyoming, 66-11, in five games to win the tournament. The title game was a 9-2 victory against the Green River Knights. Bryan Wojtkiewicz earned the win on the mound in the final game with a three-hit, complete-game effort. Other efforts that coach Bob Satterwhite noted was a 1-hit pitching performance by Josh Satterwhite in the semifinals against Cheyenne (a 12-1 win), strong hitting performances by the entire team in 18-1 and 17-1 wins against Rock Springs and home runs in the opening game by Wojtkiewicz and Bryan Richards.

After collecting the championship the team headed to Omaha for a three-day tournament. On Tuesday, the Bulldogs surrendered four home runs in a 12-2 loss to the Nebraska Wildcats.

“We had some humility handed to us,” Satterwhite said.

The Bulldogs are scheduled to play two games this morning in Omaha.
