Larona McPherson: Thank you for the hard work, YVEA

To the editor:

Recently I was able to see firsthand what sometimes needs to occur to keep our homes supplied with electricity. I was aware as I headed home on the evening of Sept. 8 that there had been some power outages due to the storm.

As I arrived at the bottom of our driveway southwest of Craig city limits, I saw multiple Yampa Valley Electric Association vehicles parked on the county road with many rain slickered employees bustling about with lightning flashing and heavy rain coming down.

Blomquist Construction was using a bulldozer to get a passable road to the electric pole that had been snapped in half by lightning. As soon as the road was done the trucks all moved to the damaged pole. I was in my warm house with electricity fixing dinner and periodically I moved over to the window to see how things were progressing. It got dark so they put up lights to continue working and myself and my family went to bed.

At 2 a.m. I heard the trucks finally coming back out and heading home.

The next time our power goes out I will not grumble or complain but I will think of and say a prayer for those wonderful YVEA employees who fight all the elements that are thrown at them and do not stop until the power is back on.

Thank you, you all do a wonderful job keeping the lights on!
