Land board in Craig
Craig — The Colorado State Land Board of Land Commissioners (SLB) will hold its August meeting in Craig. The meeting will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Holiday Inn.
The board will hold a workshop before the meeting, beginning at 8:30 a.m., in the same location. The workshop will be open to the public; however, public testimony will be taken only during the regular meeting.
The SLB manages 3 million acres of land and 4 million acres of mineral rights that were given to Colorado at statehood by the federal government. These lands are managed to benefit eight trusts. Income from the largest trust goes to support public education.
Land use issues will be brought before the five-person board, including the recodification of mineral policies and a coal lease application for National King Coal, Inc. in La Plata County. A sand and gravel permit application for Conejos County will also be reviewed.
The Steamboat Springs City Council voted, 4-3, to ban disposable plastic bags at Steamboat’s largest grocery stores.
