Kermit H. McElroy: 1921-2005
Kermit H. McElroy died Nov. 10, 2005, in Marshalltown. He was 84.
McElroy was born Jan. 19, 1921, in Belle Plaine, Iowa, to Archie and Nina (Hewitt) McElroy.
McElroy was raised and attended school in Belle Plaine. After high school, he lived for a time in Baltimore, and he then entered the U.S. Navy during World War II. He married Violet Sidel on July 8, 1944, in Madison, Wis. They were later divorced. McElroy worked many years in a meat-packing plant. He has spent the past 20 years at the Iowa Veteran’s Home in Marshalltown. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and hunting.
He is survived by his daughter, Sandra (Carmen) Delgado of Craig; son, Ronnie (Debra) McElroy of Craig; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, Richard C. McElroy of Oklahoma City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Sharon Elaine; and a son, Larry.
Cremation has taken place, and a graveside service will be held at the Craig Cemetery at a later date.
