Katie Grobe: In life, the only constant is change
Change is a part of life.
We change jobs, homes, interests, and some of us even change towns, fairly often.
Change is something we can seek out or something that can be thrust upon us. Changes can be as large as relocating across the globe or as small as substituting oatmeal for cold cereal each morning.
Accepting change can be a real challenge for some of us, and even a slight hiccup in our daily schedules can make things quite difficult.
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 reminds us nothing is really set and changes come in a variety of flavors: “There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven —
A time to give birth and a time to die; A time to plant and a time to uproot what is planted.
A time to kill and a time to heal; A time to tear down and a time to build up.
A time to weep and a time to laugh; A time to mourn and a time to dance.
A time to throw stones and a time to gather stones; A time to embrace and a time to shun embracing.
A time to search and a time to give up as lost; A time to keep and a time to throw away.
A time to tear apart and a time to sew together; A time to be silent and a time to speak.
A time to love and a time to hate; A time for war and a time for peace.”
What if God is showing you something He would like to change in you?
When this happens to me, I tend to pout and think it’s not that big of a deal, but if He’s pointing it out, there must be something not quite right.
Whether the change is physical or spiritual, it all takes a bit of faith that the new aspect is for the best, and learning to lean on God for the strength to adapt allows faith to grow.
As Paul states in Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.”
